Most of the early occupants were members of the Scandia Baptist Church, which was established in 1855. The log meeting house for this church, built in 1857, is now located on the campus of Bethel University, in Arden Hills.
Oakwood Community Church in Waconia is the spiritual descendant of Scandia Baptist Church.
